Jane: Oh, dear! The phone’s ringing. It always rings when I’m in the bathroom. Hullo, this is 7439030. Jane Brown speaking.
Worthington: It’s Worthington, James Worthington. I’d like to talk to Mr Brown.
Jane: I’m afraid my father is not in.
Worthington: What time does he usually come home?
Jane: He usually stays in his office until five. Today he’s staying till seven because he’s got an appointment.
Worthington: Well, please tell him to ring up Mr Worthington at ten o’clock tomorrow morning.
Jane: How do you spell your name, please?
Worthington: W-O-R-T-H-I-N-G-T-O-N.
Jane: Thank you. Goodbye, Mr Worthington.
(She sneezes)
Of course I’m cold with only a towel on!
(The telephone rings)
Oh, not again!

PRACTICE DIALOGUE
Mr Brown is visiting Mr Worthington, the managing director of a company.
Worthington: Would you sit down, please?
Richard: Thank you.
Worthington: Would you like a drink?
Richard: Yes, please.
Worthington: What would you like?
Richard: I’d like a gin and tonic, please.
Secretary? I am sorry for disturbing you, sir, but there’s a phone call for you.
