UNIT NINE: JANE’S HAVING HER FRENCH LESSON
Teacher: Good afternoon, everybody! How are you today?
Students: Very well, thank you!
Teacher: What horrible weather today! It’s pouring with
rain. Aren’t you cold? I am. Why’s Michael absent today?
Jane: He’s not her because he’s got a cold. The doctor says
he mustn’t go out; he must stay in bed for a day or two.
Teacher: Oh, I see.
Ted: Miss Le Beau, may I switch the light on? I can’t see;
it is so dark in the classroom.
Teacher: Of course you may. Open your notebooks. Let’s
correct your homework now. John, read the first sentence in English, please?
John: There are …
Teacher: Can you speak, louder, please?
John: There are …
Teacher: You needn’t shout boy!
PRACTICE DIALOGUE
Doctor: Hallo, Michael! What’s the matter with you?
Michael: I’m ill. I’ve got a could.
Doctor: Have you got a temperature?
Michael: Yes, I have.
Doctor: I see. Then you
must stay in bed for a day or two. You needn’t take any medicine, just tea and
aspirins.
Michael: Can I go out on Friday?
Doctor: No, you mustn’t, but perhaps you can go to school
next week. Maybe on Monday.
